My dear friend, Caroline is a wife, mom, and dedicated triathlete. In fact, she is nationally ranked in the sport. Her disciple to lead a healthy life is admirable. She takes really good care of herself, in order to be able to give more to her husband, 6 year old daughter, and 8 year old son. But more importantly, she recognizes when to say no, and what to say yes to. She says yes to what she enjoys, and clears away what she doesn't. And this year, she is training for her first half ironman. Although we laughed that she may need some work in the feminine superpower aspect, she is just fierce and feminine the way she is.
Myself. I inspire myself. I am driven and inspired to care for myself - knowing that I when I am better equip, everything else falls into place
What is your favorite quote?
I don't really have a favorite quote, but these two are pretty cool -
"Everything you need is already inside." (I like this for sport and training).
"Deep down you already know the truth." (I like this one for trusting your self, your intuition).
What is your feminine superpower?
I work to see purpose + meaning in all situations. I think I try to see things in good light. I try to always be positive.
What makes you feel vulnerable?
When my body is off, it really bothers me.
What is a non-negotiable part of your daily routine?
Making a point to get up before my family is a big one for me. I drink lots of water. I supplement. I look at my day, and I am very conscientious about having healthy food on hand to fuel my body.
How do you stay healthy?
I enjoy cooking and reading about food + recipes, so this guides me to make good food choices for my body. I also train for triathlons (which we both laughed and questioned whether that is truly healthy).
Can you share a favorite simple + nourishing meal that you make often?
Hmmm, that's a hard one. It depends what I'm in the mood for, I am not a big planner on meals, just have lots of food on hand so I can cook what "sounds" good to me and has a good kid variation. On heavy workout days, I like browning up some organic ground pork in coconut oil, add a little cinnamon with some shredded sweet potatoes.
My standard go to is - a nice grassed filet with a warm salad (any vegetable roasted up and tossed in a green). For kid variation, I roast a whole organic chicken bird for me & the hubby. I then shred some chicken meat and toss with greens, sliced apple, roasted cubes of butternut squash with a vinaigrette of champagne vinegar, olive oil, & brown mustard. The kids get a plate of everything straight up - a plate of chicken, apple slices and butternut squash. Can you tell I like food and cooking?!
How do deal with overwhelm and stress?
Positive thinking. I grasp onto something I can tackle and work on. I control what I can as an active participant. In the past year, I have cleared space in my life. I am not working this year for this reason. I plan my life to minimize stress. I don't over schedule. I say no.
Can you share 3 tips or words of wisdom for other women?
1. Have fun.
2. Don't overthink.
3. Everything works out as it should.
What does the whole healthy woman mean to you?
Being happy and feeling good about yourself, and everything else will fall into place. We laugh about worshiping the goddess that we are, but it's true. Worship her. Taking care of us is the biggest component to health.
When women Illuminate other women, we shed a whole new light.
Typically when others' do this, it is done in hopes to spread the word about another's
mission + purpose. And some of the women, I plan to interview have
whole- hearted businesses they are working hard at. But others are choosing to be at home - for now. Still we all learn from one another.
And this is my dream - a sisterhood of wellness warriors all boosting each other higher.
